The Human Growth hormone is very vital for the normal functioning of the body and for the body to grow normally. Every person will have different levels of HGH in their body and in some people it may be more and in some people it may be less. However there will be predetermined levels and it can vary a little over the normal levels or little below but there are some people who vary largely and in their body the levels of the HGH may be too low. The different levels of the human growth hormone in the body will cause different symptoms in people. Some people may experience sleeplessness, some may be depressed, other s experience a loss of energy. These symptoms start appearing usually after a normal person reaches the age of 50. The most common reason people often conclude is that they are growing old. The actual reason for growing old is that the pituitary gland has slowed down it is producing lesser HGH and so the body is also losing energy.

In some people especially children, all these symptoms start much early in life and they do not even grow into a complete human being. Based on the symptoms in such people , these people are tested for the levels of the HGH in their body. These people can grow into dwarfs if the HGH production is less than average and some people can grow into giants if the HGH production s too much in their body.

HGH testing procedure

The Human growth hormone levels change rapidly in the body , so several blood samples has to be taken on different days to measure the maximum and minimum level of HGH production. The results vary from person to person and the basic chart that is followed is

0-5 ng/ml (nanograms per milliliter)

Women 0-10 ng/ml

0-16 ng/ml in children

If these levels are not maintained in a person than he or she may have a problem with Human Growth Hormone while the levels can slightly differ and the difference should not be too much. When the values arte much higher than normal this will lead to dwarfism. There are other tests which determine if the hormone is causing the problem and this is determined by using growth hormone suppression tests. The hormone suppression test measure the HGH levels in the body before the patient is made to consume a large amount of sugar and after the consumption of sugar. Before taking the sugar the levels of the HGH should be los and after taking the huge amount of sugar the HGH level should be very high. If the patient shows that the levels of HGH has been high before and after , or low before and after the sugar intake, then the patient is confirmed to have problems with HGH production.

Why should we test for HGH?

HGH testing is not a must for everyone and especially grown ups. HGH testing is important for children who have problems with growth and exhibit symptoms of abnormal growth patterns. The testing process is important because if there is a deficiency which is determined before the child reaches the adolescent age the problems can be rectified in time.
